Today on the blog I am talking all about my Signature Newborn Session, what it includes, how my clients schedule with me when they’re expecting, how I prepare my clients for their shoot, what to expect the day of the shoot, typical editing turnaround time, and my Signature Newborn Session Galleries.

My Signature Newborn Session is a 1.5-2 hour session, conducted in the clients home, when the newborn is approximately 2 weeks old, with the parents, the newborn, any additional children, and well-behaved pets. My Signature Newborn Session is the longest of all the session timeframes I offer, which allows us to relax, and keep the newborn comfortable and relaxed and/or asleep the entire session. The lengthy session timeframe allows us to get photos in multiple locations in and around your home, including but not limited to the nursery, master bedroom, the living room, in my newborn basket bassinet with newborn wraps, and outside your home if time allows. The lengthy session timeframe also allows us to give the newborn multiple outfit changes which allows for some variation in your final gallery. I typically have my clients prepare 1-2 outfits for their newborn, and we also take photos of the newborn in my newborn photography wraps. Clients love the versatility in their final galleries between the outfit changes and various backgrounds within the session.

I have my expecting moms book their sessions with me for the month they are due, and I instruct them to contact me once they are home with the baby from the hospital, and at that point we schedule the shoot when the newborn is approximately two weeks old. We do this for a couple of reasons. 1. The newborn is still so young where we can capture those beautiful, fleeting early moments of the newborn, capturing all their beauty in those earliest days. 2. They are still sleepy and flexible enough where we can get beautiful classic newborn photos. For these reasons, the two week post gestational period is ideal for scheduling.

When each client of mine books a Signature Newborn Session with me, at that time I send them my Newborn Session Guide via email, which is jam packed with information on how I recommend clients set up their homes, styling guidance for the entire family, as well as how yo prepare their newborn for the morning of the shoot itself. On the morning of the shoot, I arrive to my clients homes at our scheduled time, and we begin our session together. We typically start with the newborn alone in my newborn photography wraps and basket bassinet, then we move through the client’s home, in various different rooms, getting lifestyle shots with a mix of posed and candid-style photos of the entire family (and pet) with the newborn. The shoot itself includes detailed shots of the nursery, so my clients can remember every little detail of the room they poured their heart and soul into preparing for their new loved one. I allow my clients to take family photos outside their home as well if time allows. My clients love the variety of photos they receive in their final galleries from me.

For my Signature Newborn Sessions, my clients prepay for 85 high resolution digital images, but I typically give a number on the low 100s in their final galleries for two reasons. 1. I allow my clients to choose their favorite 85 images that they pre purchased. 2. If my clients choose, they’re able to pay an additional per photo fee, to download additional images in their galleries, in addition to the included 85. My editing time for a Signature Newborn Sessions is typically within a week following the shoot. My photo galleries also have an attached online store, where my clients can order prints, custom photo albums and other heirloom photo items right through their galleries.
